A Year after Invasion, Russian Propaganda has gone Insane to Fuel Putins War | Foreign Correspondent
On the eve of the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the propaganda war being waged by President Putin has become more extreme. Russian citizens are being repeatedly told that Ukraine is being run by LGBT Nazis and President Vlodomyr Zelensky is a drug addict and a sexual pervert. Subscribe: https://ab.co/3yqPOZ5
Independent Russian journalists forced to flee the country have found sanctuary in neighbouring Latvia where they are now broadcasting factual news about the war into their former homeland via YouTube. On Foreign Correspondent, reporter Eric Campbell, also on Russia’s banned list, travels to Latvia to meet the journalists who have taken great risks to fight the propaganda war.

How does the Kremlin’s information warfare threaten democratic countries, and how can Western countries prepare for future Russian campaigns?

Russian Information Warfare: An Advancing Front of Disinformation and Propaganda
Recent revelations of the Russian purchase of Facebook ads in the last U.S. presidential election cycle and efforts to sway public opinion to undermine faith in American democracy are classic examples of Kremlin information warfare. Americans have been reminded that while the Soviet Union is long gone, its insidious disinformation strategies are alive and well. The countries along Russia’s borders as well as in Eastern and Central Europe have borne the brunt of Kremlin interference and disinformation for years. Russia’s strategy is to dislodge them from the European Union, create internal turmoil and smear the United State with a barrage of anti-American fake news.

It is no secret that the Kremlin uses offensive cyber operations against NATO members. What is often overlooked is the supplementary information warfare that the Russian government uses as a tool against democratic political infrastructure. Election disinformation, coup plots, and protests all fall under Moscow’s goal of creating conflict and chaos without passing the threshold of armed conflict. How does the Kremlin’s information warfare threaten democratic countries, and how can Western countries prepare for future Russian campaigns?
